In Malawi

Doctors: Over the years a number of doctors have volunteered to spend 3 or 6 months or so with us. It is a very different world from the high technology environment in the developed world. Armed with just a stethoscope, otoscope/ophthalmoscope and recently a B & W ultrasound machine this is the practice of medicine at the simplest level.

We have a simple but clean 3/4 bedroomed house on our compound and although not essential we recommend coming out with a partner or colleague for company.

Nurses: We have welcomed a number of nurses over the years who have come out to Malawi to work with us. Again we recommend coming out with a partner or colleague for company.

David Spencer

In the U.K.

Senior executives: David Spencer operated at the highest level in the corporate world and felt he "wanted to put something back" and looked at a number charities working in the poorest nations of the world, chose us and became our honorary chairman.

He travelled out to Malawi every year and opened many doors for us. It was a major plus to have a hard-headed business brain to assist in our decision-making.

A great guy who we sadly lost when he died at just 51 years of age.

Areas where we have an evident shortfall in skills are marketing/publicity and fundraising.
