Malaria is caused by protozoan parasites of the genus Plasmodium of which there are four species:
Falciparum
Vivax
Ovale
Malaria
Falciparum is the commonest and most dangerous of the four and can be fatal if untreated. The parasites are transmitted from one person to another by the female anopheline mosquito.
